Ate on 2 occasions during a stay in Kingston. The setting and ambience was smart but relaxed and there were other diners though it wasnt completely packed. The staff were friendly and polite and gave us info on the Nepalese dishes on the menu. All the usual Indian curries are on the menu but there is a separate menu of Himalayan specialities. We tried the Pahadi Chicken and it was very tasty and full of flavours. Prices are reasonable and with a few starters, main and sharing papadums, naan and rice and including our wine it was still less than £20 per head. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend as there is a wide variety on the menu for all tastes and all our party really enjoyed their dishes. Visited February 2014 -Fatimadriss

This is seriously one of the best Indian restaurants in London (not counting the mega expensive high end ones in Central London). The butter chicken and chicken dry fry are quite simply THE best - my 17 year old son swears by their lamb and my 16 year old daughter loves the (healthy) chicken and the prawn sizzlers. Not so long ago I asked the restaurant to cater for my husband's 50th birthday party which I wanted to host at home - the spread was superb, and the portion sizes huge, they gained a lot of new customers because everybody enjoyed the food so much. The restaurant gladly loaned me the buffet sets complete with burners to keep the food warm, and sent everything in a cab so I could keep the surprise for my husband. All in all they bent over backwards to help me give my husband a truly memorable birthday party. More recently we organised a fairly large party of footballers and WAGS, took up a large part of their back room (I'm afraid we were probably horribly noisy), and once again Monty's delivered in every possible way. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Visited February 2014 -BalhamBlonde

There are not many non-chain restaurants in Kingston, sadly, so picked this one as it's close to the Odeon. The restaurant is clean and modern and seemed very popular. Things went downhill with our food. The poppadoms were not as crispy as they should be and the chutneys were pretty poor. My husband chose a 'staff special' which was a thick beige gloop and really unpleasant. Takes a lot for him not to eat his dinner! We sent it back and shared my biryani, which was OK but again I've had much better. The manager did take the special off the bill with good grace, but all in all disappointing. Looking to find a decent restaurant in Kingston, we thought we would try out Monty's. Upon entering the restaurant, we we were politely greeted and shown to a table. Unfortunately for us there was rowdy large stag group making a ruckus, that we were seated next to. Instantly we asked for some seats away from this group that the restaurant promptly did. However this did help much due to the nature of this group as the could be heard from miles due the acoustics of the venue. I can't blame the restaurant for this but it did not make a pleasant atmosphere to dine in. As we were starving, we decided to have some poppadums whilst we waited for our starters. The poppadums had a good crunchy texture. However they were really let down by the chutney's that they were accompanied with. The Mint sauce was bland, onion mix was a bit odd and the weird Tikka sauce could only be described as sickly unpleasant and overpowering. Mango Chutney was normal. For starters we shared a mixed grill which was rather decent. My first thought was the two King Prawns it came with were not worthy of the title King as they were rather small in my books. Overall it was not too bad. For the mains we had KAALO DAAL and a PAHADI CHICKEN with rice and Garlic Naan. The PAHADI CHICKEN had a flavour of a generic Tikka Massala and tasted of good quality chicken. The KAALO DAAL's flavour to me was dominated by the bean and lentils. The Rice and Naan were tasty and well made. Overall I did not enjoy the atmosphere much, the service was polite but seemed disorganised and the food was not really that special. Would I go back...highly unlikely. Visited February 2014 -SirCrirical

We have been to Montys many times and the reason we keep going back is that the quality never varies. The food is excellent and the service is warm and friendly. The decor is modern and the selection of dishes is wide enough to cater for everyone. Will certainly go again... and again. Without doubt one of the very best restaurants in the area. Unfortunately if you go to Kingston looking for a curry then there isn't much to choose from but we went where based on a recommendation and the food was lovely. The only reason I agent given full marks is because we were given one drink at the start of the meal and were not offered another. This may be because we were a group tucked away at the back. Also, the peshwari naan breads do not have coconut in but were nice nonetheless. Lovely food, we would go back. Visited December 2013 -Mrsmikereviews

From the moment we walked through the door, we were made to feel extremely welcome. The service throughout the evening was superb, and I cannot begin to describe the food, apart from being delicious. I cannot complement the restaurant enough, the whole experience was incredible, and I will certainly be returning shortly to enjoy further meals. Visited January 2014 -David W

This has been a firm favourite of mine, family and friends for years! Serving a mixture of traditional curries and Nepalese dishes you are always spoiled for choice. Most recent visit was for a birthday dinner. The Nutty Lamb is nice if you like a milder dish, and we ordered a chicken madras to even things out, and a vegetable massala. Overall good atmosphere, lovely food and decent price at less than £20 a head including wine (a very drinkable house red)! Visited December 2013 -Will P

We held our company Christmas party at Monty's tonight and were very impressed by the venue, the food and the service, all was excellent. The waiter very patiently took photos on about 7 different smartphones for us, and we were treated very well throughout. We will definitely be returning here, highly recommended! -James P

After 25 years of eating curry at Montys in Ealing and Kingston we would still never go anywhere else. Whenever we do we are always disappointed and return to Montys. Excellent tasty fresh Nepalese food, friendly attentive service....just the best - bootooyou

I ate here as part of a group of 12. Service was very good and the staff dealt with us well with none of the edge that sometimes happens when a crowd of friends are more intent on the socialising than ordering. We ordered three large rice, two tupes of bread and nine main dishes between us and there was ample food. And what food! A friend visiting from Delhi rated the daal very highly and the Nepali dishes we ordered had both subtlety and depth of flavour. they were much more interesting than standard curry house fare. We drank a mix or lagers, lassis and soft drinks and most people had a couple each. With tip it came to GBP17 a head which we all thought was stonkingly good value. This place is worth visiting, Visited October 2013 -NCPG

I saw this restaurant had a good rating and thought a friend and myself would try it. Although the food was fine the service was indifferent and getting drinks etc was an effort which ruined the meal. I can't say much else really but to me ease of getting served is vital because I was eating a meal without a drink which is not great with curry! Visited July 2013 -John T

As with the previous reviewer, I too have lived in Kingston for many years and due to the slightly unsuspecting exterior of Montys, had somehow never been in. Can't believe how many meals I've missed out on! The interior has fairly classy modern eastern decor. The whole restaurant (including the toilets!) is incredibly clean. Service is very attentive too. We tried a variety of starters which were all good (recommend the duck!), and the vindaloo is nice and hot as a mains. Nothing bad to say at all (which is why I'm bothering to write a nice review to spread the word..). Definitely going back soon. Visited September 2013 -JGA88

I feel like a fool. I have lived in the area for 20+ years and have a long term love affair with Indian food yet I have managed to overlook Monty's until last week. The menu looks very comprehensive and what we chose was delicious and nicely turned out. The food is as far from the normal "high street curry" as you can get. You can taste every spice and the heat of each dish is carefully calibrated to draw out the other flavours. Service is smart and efficient and, whilst the decor is a bit bright, it is clean and inoffensive. Don't waste time reading other reviews. If you like really good food get yourself there now. An efficient friendly restaurant which seems to be very popular. Our meal was excellent, really tasty curry and excellent pilau rice. Good prices too - we shall certainly return. Visited August 2013 -stephenf8

Discovered Monty's by accident but glad I did. By far the best Chicken Bhuna I have ever tasted with properly marinated meat and tomato which had had the seeds carefully removed. The pilau rice was as splendid. My friend had Chicken Saag which was also highly rated. Service was excellent and fast too in splendid surroundings. An eating experience which can't be missed. Visited July 2013 -ChrisPrior2904

My favourite restaurant in the whole of kingston. Montys is a Nepalese restaurant that serves amazing food, clearly cooked by chefs who know the magic mix of spice and flavour. My favourite Is the butter chicken for main, cooked to whatever heat you decide. A real family feel from the owners and staff leaves you always wanting to come back for great food accompanied by a bottle or 2 of Kathmandu beer. Visited August 2013 -Kevbentall

Monty's is a beautiful eating experience and I have to say the best Indian food I have ever eaten. The staff are welcoming and friendly, they make you feel right at home. The atmosphere is relaxed but most important of all the food is DIVINE. I have never written a review for Trip Advisor for anything before but Monty's is worth it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone : ) Visited June 2013 -Scminka

Been coming to Monty's since I was a young child. The food has always been fantastic, the staff build personal relationships with all their customers and take genuine interest in regulars. Wide range of authentic dishes with amazing taste. Visited September 2012 -Sbangsuk

wonderful food and welcome. Try the Nepalese specials and the Khukuri beer. Service is great and makes us wonder why we don't come here every week. Visited May 2013 -OscarandOllie

We have been visiting Montys in Kingston upon Thames consistently for many years. The service and staff are exemplary and courteous. Everyone is greeted like an old friend. Food is excellent and great value for money. We have dined at many other Indian restaurants including the top end Veeraswamy, but always come back to Montys. This is a restaurant that is well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. Steve & Shirley Visited May 2013 -Shirley M

It is quite difficult to find authentic Asian food in Britain. There are some fantastic restaurants that have really pushed the boundaries of variety but sometimes I yearn for authenticity and here it is. We had the Chicken Chat and Sheek Kebab starters which were around £4 I think. Both were rather excellent. Mains were Chicken Safarkan and Gurkhali Daal. The mains were just awesome with lots of individual flavours competing for attention on the palette. We also had garlic naan and Pulao (you can spell the word with an 'i' or a 'u') rice. Service was friendly and effective without being intrusive. the proximity of the restaurant to town makes it a great place to dine when shopping in Kingston's famous mall. Highly recommended. Visited May 2013 -Gary B

A friend of a friend who lives locally took us here for dinner where he was greeted like a beloved member of the family. This is not ordinary slap dash Asian food. Every dish was thoughtful and original, especially the vegetarian dishes. My meal was so good I would consider driving from London OUT to Kingston to eat here again. Visited April 2013 -Charley759

Were there late at night when other restaurants were closing...the staff welcomed us with smile and served drinks and hot food well past midnight. Must admit the food was good and ambience/ location good one. it is a reasonably priced authentic Nepalese restaurant with North Indian touch.. certainly much better that than the Bangladeshi run Indian restaurants...Recommended for lunch and dinner... We've been eating in Monty's since 1990, having tried many other similar style restaurants in Surrey and beyond! The staff are lovely, the service is nearly always great (a few occasions where we waited for our food but usually when the place was packed out with people waiting) and the food amazing. We have since moved from Surrey to Sussex but still go back to Monty's when we can. Visited February 2013 -Lynneyvitte

We've been going to Monty's since it opened and have never had a duff meal. The food is consistently good and the staff unerringly friendly. Our favourites are the shashlik, dhansaks and veg masala. We've recommended Monty's to friends and it's become one of their favourites too. They do a great sunday lunch buffet - good value. If you go, we may well be there too! -Caroline C

I've only had takeaway from here but the food has always been excellent. Fragrant curries, excellent naan and friendly service. Visited April 2013 -JamieD813

This is a gem of a restaurant - one of my favourite Indian restaurants in London. It's actually a Nepalese restaurant but the cuisine is very similar to what you would find in many indian restaurants. The food is absolutely fantastic, especially the starters, its really good value for money and the service is excellent. Already looking forward to my next visit!! -londonholidayaddict

Simple enough idea .. my fiancée and I wanted a Sunday curry buffet lunch before I left England for Prague. I remembered there was a Monty's in Fife Road, Kingston .. £8.95 for an all you can eat buffet lunch .. food was fabulous, service attentive but not overbearing .. they even made a special veggie dish for my fiancee ..can't speak highly enough of it. As an aside there were three tables occupied by Indian couples and a family .. always a good sign. Total bill came to £26 .. even then a bargain. Very highly recommended !!!! Visited February 2013 -GtrVoc

This hidden gem is a must visit. It's Nepalese cuisine, which is slightly differently spiced from your classic Indian. My family and I (who are ourselves Indian) have been coming here for years, and the food is always delicious and fresh. If it's Indian you're after, this is by far the best place to go. I can't recommend this place highly enough! Visited February 2013 -SharmVara

Eating out in Kingston can be a bit daunting as you pick your way past the drunks and clubers and the standard chain restaurants full of people lining their stomachs before a hard night's boozing. However Monty's is an oasis: located on Dolphin Street handily close to Kingston station, once you are through the doors you quickly forget the crowds outside in the warm atmosphere within. The restaurant is well laid out so you can actually appreciate your companions' conversation without feeling that the people on the next table can join in whether you like it or not. There is no intrusive music, the service is prompt, efficient and friendly and the menu has a good range. We tried 'Nutty Lamb', 'Lamb Meatballs' and Vegetable Daal with boiled rice and plenty of Nan bread and we were all more than satisfied with the taste and portions. The Nan bread was especially good and the lamb was tender and well cooked. Washed down with a Nepalese beer we were very happy. We were not hustled out after we had eaten either. They also do takeaway and let you sit calmly and have a drink while you wait for it. Recommended. Visited February 2013 -Lonewolf44

Excellent range of dishes(large range to choose from). I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant for a great meal at a good price. Staff are polite and attentive. Restaurant provides some of their signature dishes, that have won awards in culinary competitions. -Lakes_traveller007

I have been going to Monty's since it opened in Kingston and can thoroughly recommend it. The cooking is excellent - the spicing is sophisticated and the flavours fresh and vibrant. It's absolutely not your local Indian restaurant fare, and has proved a bit of an eye-opener to many of the people I've taken there. Don't miss out on the Nepalese specials menu. The restaurant has low key modern decoration (forget flock wallpaper) and service is friendly but never intrusive. Highly recommended. - Pollybird

We have been visiting Monty's for many years now. It simply is the best curry house around. The menu is extensive, with a good mix of Nepalese dishes and more tradtiotional curry dishes. Everything is super tasty, not swimming in grease, very concentrated in flavour with delicious sauces. The staff are always smiley and helpful and attentive without being annoying. We take our three children there and they are always made to feel very welcome too. Visited August 2012 -PeppermintTea50

In the Kingston and surrounding areas this is one of the finest Tandoori restaurants period! To match this food you're going to have to head into Central London. But it's not just the food, try the King Prawn pathia or any of the clay oven dishes for example, but it's also superb service. The staff here really take care of you, but it's by no means supercilious. It's very relaxed. A lot of the crowd that eat there are regulars and the staff no there favourite dishes, bring drinks at just the right moment and it's all done effortlessly. New comers get a great welcome too. It's certainly though not catering for the post pub crowd. - Brendans

This place is an absolute must-go for tandoori lovers. the food was divine, décor was simple yet effective creating a chilled mood and the service was exquisite. i have escorted many of my friends and family here and now this place has become a real favourite to many. with their wide choice in their menu offering typical dishes too the more unusual but equally gorgeous. you leave here with a subtle spice on your tongue and a smile on your face. five stars all round a must-go. -Jake Beazley-Long

Monty’s describe themselves as ‘the finest Nepalese restaurant in Kingston’ - undisputedly, as I’m pretty certain they are the only Nepalese restaurant there…! I’ve enjoyed each visit I’ve made here. The staff are chilled, with a certain Nepalese(?) serenity and kindness about them. The restaurant itself is understated; decorated in cool cream tones, with attractive plant and floral displays and inspiringly tranquil photographic scenes of Nepal. I enjoyed the food, too: well-spiced and a little lighter than most - more mainstream - Indian restaurant dishes I have eaten. Prices are mid-range. Although I can only comment, personally, on the experience I’ve had dining at the restaurant, they also offer a catering service and do home deliveries. Ideally I’d award them three and a half stars… - Arlene

Monty's is fantastic! explosion on flavours in lovely Kingston. Service is impeccable, food is always fresh and tasty and always served with a smile. Whilst we lived in Kingston upon Thames, Monty's was our local curry house; now we live in Spain we keep coming back to London and keep going to Monty's in Kingston for lovely dinners with our friends. Moglai Chicken and Lamb Maharani wont disappoint you! -Bex-Surrey

For our friends and ourselves this is our absolute favourite restaurant . We have all been eating here for over 25 years, and although we have travelled to many parts of the world, we have not yet found a restaurant where the curry is better. The quality of the food in all that time has been consistently excellent. The staff are wonderful and cant do enough to make your visit as enjoyable as they can. The decor is light and modern and reflective of the general vibe. Cant recommend Monty's highly enough. -Julie

Monty's opened the day we moved to Kingston. We have been hooked ever since but everyone we have recommended this great restaurant too have always thanked us. Both the food and staff are superb and their Nepalese specials are the best in London. The Tikka and Tandoori dishes are fantastic and you will not find better staff in the local area. Their take away is a good good second option too. -Neil Nutley

The food was tasty but marred by massive over-salting, I had the Lamb Maharani. Couldn't say it justified the cost. The service was good and nicely laid out. The tables seemed too small for the plates and hotplates. I really enjoyed the bottle of Nepalese beer though, I would definitely recommend the Khukuri. -Paul Murphy

I've been going to Monty's for soooo many years - I don't go often as I don't live in Kingston but the guys always remember me and the service and the food is fab - took a couple of friends in there last weekend - as usual we had a great time and a great meal. I really recommend it. -Peachgirl

We love Nepalese food! And was even more delighted when the staff made recommendation in the menu, to try different dishes. It was all delicious!Beautiful restaurant, especially liked the little peaceful winter garden. Visited September 2012 -Sufiyo

We have been using Monty's ever since we discovered the one in Ealing , the food is always very good the Keema nans are the best ever , just a short walk from the station , great staff. -Love2travelgalicia

I have been going to Monty's Nepalese restaurant for the last couple of years, and every time I go, the service is great and the food is fabulous. It is a bit of a hidden gem, as from the outside, Monty's doesn't look anything special, but it is the best curry I have had in the area. My favourite dish is the butter chicken, which is delicious, creamy and mild. The waiters are very friendly and charming, and always do their best to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. The d£r of the restaurant is not particularly nice but the food is amazing which more than makes up for it in my eyes! -Bentalls

Found this place in the heart of Kingston. Sunday night, not esp busy but a few people eating there. Specials menu but only one veggie dish on it. Nice black lentil dahl. Tasty. Lovely aromatic pilau rice, beautifully seasoned and a not greasy paratha. Generous measure of house white to wash it down. Lovely clean white decor, minimalist and not fussy. Attentive waiters. Had a good evening here. Not outstanding, but definitely above average. Only downside were the bread baskets, lined with napkins, but looking decidedly well used and veering towards grubby underneath. Would come back when in the area. -Travel Writer

We had a good meal with a variety of starters and main courses which were all very tasty. some of the descriptions for the dishes did give an odd impression of what was going to be served but all proved to be very good. Service was well timed - not rushed but not slow, just right! Overall a good meal, well worth more return visits. -From The East

We live locally and have been going to Monty's for some years. We have always found the food to be very good, the staff friendly and prices reasonable. -GLD

Amazing food and great staff. - Anon

We have eaten at many Indian restaurants across London over the years. From Veeraswamy to indian Zilla, but always returned to Montys. The foods is always great, and the staff have always gone out of the way to deliver a first class service. Finally, in two hours time, we are off for our Christmas dinner there. Liked: Food, Atmosphere. - Steve

I ordered from the day's specials and had a terrific spicy ('slightly hot' as the menu stated) chicken dish followed by a lamb dish which was perfectly cooked. I've been to Monty's several times in the distant past and was very pleased to see it hasn't changed in the intervening years. Good value, friendly service and convenient location if you're out in Kingston. There's a notice stating that they have some private parking for clients but I didn't use it. Parking is otherwise a bit difficult around here. Visited October 2012 -Kaymanisle (Geneva)
